The truth threshold applied to all work produced under the SJP banner.
Greater than ninety percent of the human experience must be genuinely present in the work — not ninety percent autobiographical, but ninety percent true to the actual texture of how people feel, how they break, how they survive, and how they behave when no one is watching. This is a higher bar than it sounds, because the easiest thing in the world is to write about pain in a way that is technically accurate and emotionally sanitised.
The ten percent that remains is where craft lives. Where the line is shaped. Where the word that is almost right is discarded for the word that is exactly right, even if it is less comfortable. The ninety percent is the obligation. The ten percent is the art.
